What you'll need:
-
Terra cotta flower pot(s) (I like to
work with the small ones, say 3 or 4
inches in diameter)
- Craft paint, any colour (check the
label to make sure it works on terra
cotta)
- Small paint brush, or stippling brush
rubber mehandi design stencil, preferably
self-adhesive.
Instructions:
As with any painting project, make sure
to spread old newspapers over your work
surface, and make sure you're wearing
something that you can get spills on!
Apply the stencil of your choice to
the surface of the flower pot make sure
that the stencil is fully adhered to
the pot - you don't want paint to leak
underneath and ruin your design! When
you're ready to apply the paint, only
use a little at a time. It's easier
to apply another layer than it is to
camouflage drip marks. wait until the
paint is dry (or at least tacky, if
you're impatient like me) before you
peel off the stencil. I like to paint
the inside of the pot the same colour
as I used with the stencil. You only
need to go down about an inch from the
rim, since the non-painted part will
be hidden by dirt!
